Tornados compete in the Catamount Classic
Ledington, Jones and Lambert all finish in the top half of their events
Cullowhee, N.C. - The Tornados track and field team took part of the Beynon Sports Surfaces Catamount Classic this past Saturday held by Western Carolina University, placing 11 athletes in eight events.
Brevard opened up the meet with two runners in the men’s 100 meter dash as Shaton Pratt and Justin Fleming finished in the top 25 of the event. Pratt led the way with a 20th place finish, recording a time of 11.12, while Fleming finished five-hundredth of a second behind at 11.17 to finish tied for 21st.
Ryane Ledington opened the match for the women’s team, sprinting in the 200 meter dash. Ledington placed in the top half of the field, finishing 17th overall with a time of 26.43 and was the top South Atlantic Conference athlete overall in the event.
Pratt and Fleming took to the starting blocks for the Tornados again in the 200 meter dash, with Pratt again finishing 20th in the field, with a time of 22.82, while Fleming finished in 33rd with a time of 23.65.
Ledington competed in the women’s 400 meter dash and Willie Jones was in the men’s 400 meters for the Tornados, with each finishing inside the top 15. Ledington received a tenth place finish after crossing the line with a time of 1:03.95, while Jones finished 13th on the men’s side with a time of 51.22.
Chirstie Converso led three Brevard athletes in the women’s 800 meter run, finishing 16th with a time of 2:37.92, while Ariel Muiselaar crossed the line in 20th with a time of 2.44.37. Chynna Shipp rounded out the group with a time of 2:57.11 to finish in 27th.
Melissa Schmidt and Matt Lambert took the track for the 1,500 meter run for the Tornados. Schmidt finished 14th in the event with a time of 5:41.82, while Lambert finished in the top half of the men’s side, finishing 17th after crossing the line in 4:15.20.
The final event the Tornados participated in was the men’s 400 meter hurdles, as Daniel Modahl and Josh Ross took the track for Brevard. Modahl finished in 11th with a time of 58.41, while Ross placed in the top 20 with a 19th place result after recording a 1:07.10.
The Tornados return to the track on April 3rd in Salisbury, N.C.
