Tornados will face two Division I opponents in 2010 season
Brevard, N.C. - Coach Juan Mascaro has released the Brevard College 2010 Men’s Soccer schedule, as announced by the BC Sport Information Department.
The Tornados draw one of the tougher schedules in Division II in 2010, featuring competitions against two NCAA Division I opponents, as well as contests against three teams who played in the 2009 NCAA Division II tournament.
Led by returners Scott Schuurman, Niclas Stolt, Henri Erti, Renato Barbosa, Anthony Cardenas and Miro Mustonen, Brevard will play an 18 game schedule this season, with 10 games coming on the pitch on the BC Soccer Field, while eight will be on the road.
The Tornados finished the 2009 season with a 1-18 record in their second season as full members of the NCAA Division II and went 0-8 as members of the South Atlantic Conference.
Brevard opens up the 2010 season with a pair of scrimmages coming on the road, opening up against Montreat on August 21st, and finishing the preseason on the road at Milligan on August 23rd.
The Tornados open the 2010 regular season on the road as they travel to Due West, S.C. to take on Erskine College on September 2nd.
Brevard continues on the road for their second game, facing off against the first Division I team on schedule, taking on Winthrop University on September 3rd. This will be the fourth straight season the Tornados and the Eagles have scheduled games against each other
Brevard’s home opener is set for September 4th against Mount Olive.
Coach Mascaro’s squad continues on the road for the next two games, taking on Division I opponent UNC Asheville on September 8th, before going up against Clayton State in Morrow, Ga.
A home contest against Virginia Intermont on September 14th leads Brevard into South Atlantic Conference play, starting on September 18th against Carson-Newman. The Tornados will host Lenoir-Rhyne, Lincoln Memorial and Tusculum on the field before traveling to Mars Hill on October 2nd.
Four home games sandwich Brevard’s first game against new South Atlantic Conference member Anderson University on October 12th.
The Tornados finish up the 2010 home schedule with a game against Newberry on October 23rd, before hosting Queens for Senior Day on October 25th.
Brevard finishes up the regular season by traveling to North Georgia on October 27th, before wrapping up the 2010 season by making the trip to Salisbury, N.C. to take on Catawba. This will be the third straight season the Tornados have finished up the regular season against the Indians.
