Tornados close out regular season with 8-1 victory

Brevard tops Lenoir-Rhyne on the road

Hickory, N.C. - The Tornados swept all three doubles matches and took five of the six points in singles competition on their way to closing out the 2010 regular season with the 8-1 victory over host Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday afternoon.

With the win, Brevard improves to 7-11, 4-4 in South Atlantic Conference play, while Lenoir-Rhyne falls to 1-15, 0-8 in SAC competition.

Scott McCormick and Dorian Feron teamed up to give the Tornados the victory on doubles court No. 1, while Jonathan Kuhn and Andrew Thompson topped their opponents on court No. 2. Shane Apps and Cole Altizer completed the sweep with their 8-2 victory on court No. 3.

In singles competition, the Tornados took victories on courts No. 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6, with the lone loss coming on court No. 2 as Lenoir-Rhyne’s Hernando Saavedra topped Kuhn.

The Tornados turn next to the 2010 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference tournament hosted by the Rock Hill Tennis Center in Rock Hill, S.C. Tournament pairings will be announced Thursday by the South Atlantic Conference office.
