Brevard drops two to NGUApril 15, 2010
Tigerville, S.C. - The Crusaders hit a walk off single in the seventh inning to defeat the Tornados 4-3, and scored three runs in the sixth inning of the second game, defeating the Tornados, 9-1 for the sweep in a non-conference doubleheader.
The Tornados fall to 17-24 while North Greenville improved to 20-19.
Game 1: North Greenville 4, Brevard 3
Martika Elmore, Maddie Fletcher, and Sarah Carlos combined for Brevard’s three RBIs as the Tornados led for the majority of the game before North Greenville scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh for the win.
The Crusaders scored first in the second inning on when Robertson, who reached on an error scored on a single by Taylor Roof.
The Tornados did not score until the fourth inning when Chelsi Mallory, who singled, was driven in when short stop, Hope Brewer committed an error, allowing Elmore to reach base and Mallory to score. Sarah Carlos drove in the second run of the inning when she doubled and drove in Elmore.
Brevard added another run when Mallory, who went two for three in the game, scored on a Maddie Fletcher single to make the score 3-1.
North Greenville added a run in the bottom of the inning, but left runners stranded as they went into the final inning down by one run.
The Crusaders then led off the bottom of the seventh with two singles, and scored two runs on a Bailey single for the win, putting Elmore at 13-13 on the season.
Game 2: North Greenville 9, Brevard 1
Jennifer Gift pitched 5.2 innings for Brevard, giving up seven earned runs on 12 hits.
Roof batted in three RBIs for the Crusaders with a homerun to centerfield in the sixth inning as North Greenville added four runs in the second inning, two in fifth, and three in the sixth.
Brevard’s only run came in the first inning when Carlos scored on a passed ball.
The Tornados return to action on Saturday when they travel to Lenoir-Rhyne to play the first place and nationally ranked Bears at 2:00 P.M.
