Tornados compete in Mars HillApril 18, 2010
Next event will be 2010 Road National Championships
Mars Hill, N.C. - With one final race before heading to the 2010 USA Cycling Collegiate Road National Championships, the Tornados headed down the road to Mars Hill, N.C. to take part in the Mars Hill race.
Brevard opened the two-day event on April 17th in the Team Time Trial as the Tornados placed a men’s team in the Men’s A Group. Brevard finished seventh in the event with a time of 28:43, 3:13 off the pace of winner Lees-McRae.
Tristan Cowie led the Tornados in the Men’s A Group for the Road Race event, finishing seventh overall in the event, while Corey Meyer finished 10th overall to put two Tornados in the top group. Matt St. Marie finished 25th overall in the event to round out the group. In the Men’s B Division, Tyler Crotts recorded a DNF due to mechanical problems.
On the women’s side in the Road Race, Julia Tellman finished sixth overall, just outside the podium.
The following day in the Criterium, the Tornados were led by Meyer as he finished on the podium in fourth place overall. Cowie, St. Marie and Marshall Hartley rounded out the group for Brevard as the trio finished within four places of each other. In the Men’s B Group, Crotts finished up seventh overall, while Cory Rimmer finished 22nd.
Tellman finished up the event on the women’s side, with her second podium finish of the event in third place.
The Tornados will compete next at the 2010 USA Cycling Collegiate Road National Championships held in Madison, Wis.
