Shaeffer receives Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award

Brevard, N.C. - Brevard College junior tennis player Lindsay Shaeffer was selected by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association as the 2010 ITA/Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award Winner for the Southeast Region.

The ITA/Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award recognizes outstanding individuals in all divisions at the regional and national level. This award which dates back to 1982, goes to NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and JuCo men's and women's players who have exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements.

Shaeffer, a two-time All-South Atlantic Conference Team selection, receives this award for the first time, after leading the Tornados women’s tennis program to the 2010 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament semifinals, before falling to eventual tournament champion Lincoln Memorial.

In August, the national winners are honored during a special ceremony hosted by the USTA during Arthur Ashe Kids' Day inside Ashe Stadium.
