The Tornados were unable to hold on to their 1-0 lead and fell 2-1
Brevard, N.C. - Despite taking a 1-0 lead in the second half, the Brevard College women’s soccer team was unable to hold on to the win on Wednesday against the USC Aiken Pacers. The Tornados dropped the match 2-1.
The first half was very evenly played as neither team was able to put one in the net. The Pacers were able to outshoot the Tornados 8-2 in the first half.
Brevard struck first in the second half when Jamie Bundy (Platte City, Mo.) took a corner kick and the Pacers’ keeper, Nicole Westphal put the ball into her own net. The own goal gave the Tornados a 1-0 lead that held out for about nine minutes.
At the 67:05 mark USC Aiken was able to tie the match. Paige Busby was able to put one past Crissy Moran (Franklin County, Va.). Busby’s shot came off a pass from Jenny Piniero. Moran played the entire game in net.
It was almost five minutes later that the Pacers struck again. Brittany Moores took a pass from Alex Cohen and netted one in the 72nd minute.
The Tornados were outshot by USC Aiken 18-5. Though they were outshot, Brevard had two more corner kicks than the Pacers with five.
The women’s soccer team will be in action again on Saturday afternoon when they play host to Southern Wesley. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Brevard College Soccer Field.
