The Eagles scored in the 64th minute to take down Brevard

Box Score

Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College men’s soccer team was unable to come out on top in their South Atlantic Conference opener. The Tornados played host to the Eagles of Carson-Newman and fell 1-0 when a second half goal proved to be the difference.

The Tornados took five shots in the first half and found the post or cross bar on two of them. Despite their chances in the first half to go ahead, they were unable to capitalize and went into the break all nodded-up at zero.

It was almost 20 minutes into the second half when the Eagles struck. Forward Adam Thomas snuck one past Brevard keeper, Pauli Jussila (Valkeakoski, Finland). Jussila had just made a save on a shot from Ariel Pimentel and Thomas put the rebound into the back of the net. Jussila played all 90 minutes in net for Brevard.

Brevard fought on but was unable to find the goal they needed to tie things up and the 1-0 score stood as the final.

Brevard was outshot 11-9 and Carson-Newman took six more corners, taking seven total in the match.

The Tornados continue SAC play on Wednesday when they host the bears of Lenoir-Rhyne for a 4 p.m. match at the BC Soccer Field.
