Tornados to open 2010-2011 season with exhibition against Tennessee

Brevard to face the Volunteers on Nov. 3rd in Thompson-Boling Arena

Brevard, N.C. - One year after their run to the NCAA Division II regional tournament, the Tornados prepare to open up their 2010-2011 season with an exhibition on the road against the University of Tennessee on Wednesday, November 3rd.

"This is just going to be a great experience for our team," commented Coach Mike Jones. "This is a nationally recognized, NCAA Division I program at Tennessee, so to see our team competing with them on their floor in front of a sea of Orange with be tremendous for us."

Brevard College is coming off a record-setting campaign in which the team either tied or set team records in 28 different single game, single season and team single season records on their way to a 21-10 record, finishing 11-5 in conference play. Brevard rode their successful season to a 2010 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference tournament championship, making it to the NCAA Southeast Regional tournament for the first time since the program became a full member of the NCAA Division II in 2008.

The University of Tennessee is also coming off a successful season, having reached the Elite Eight in their fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance under head coach Bruce Pearl and the Volunteers. Tennessee has a minimum number of 17 regular season games slated to be broadcasted nationally this season, and also has 15 teams who finished the 2010 season with a year-end RPI of 100 or better in one of the toughest schedules in NCAA Division I.

"As a native Tennessean and growing up following the Volunteers, I have mixed emotions about this upcoming game," said Shirley Arnold, Brevard College Associate Dean for Academic Success. "However, my allegiance will be with the guys in blue and white! I am very proud of these student-athletes and what they accomplished on the hardwood last year but also their performance in the classroom and I see the game against Tennessee as a reward for their accomplishments. I see BC going in and showing the nationally recognized Vols that we take our basketball seriously and that we will do everything possible to pull off the upset!"

Tipoff for the game between the Tornados and the Volunteers is set for 7:30 p.m. in Thompson-Boling Arena. Tickets for the exhibition game are $5 each and are on sale now. Fans can visit www.UTtix.com to reserve your tickets today, or can contact the Tennessee ticket office at 1-800-332-8657.

"We know that they will have an arena full of fans," said Coach Jones. "We are hoping that there will be a nice big spot of BC blue in Thompson-Boiling that night. We have such a great following here and I think our fans are as excited as we are about going to Knoxville."
