Women's soccer falls 4-0 in SAC opener to LMUSeptember 25, 2010
The Tornados weren't able to hold back the LMU offense
Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College women’s soccer team was unable to upend the visiting Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters in their first South Atlantic Conference match on Saturday afternoon. The Tornados fell 4-0 as they were outshot 18-5 in the loss. The loss dropped Brevard’s record to 2-5-1 and 0-1 in SAC play.
The match was played very evenly until 35 minutes in when Sarah Taylor opened the scoring for Lincoln Memorial. Taylor’s goal was unassisted at the 35:34 mark, and it took less than five minutes for the Railsplitters to strike again. Karen Boleska headed one past Brittany Webster (Stafford, Va.) at the 40:11 marker. Her shot came off of a corner kick taken by Taylor. Two minutes later, Lincoln struck again when Leanne Reid dribbled through the middle of the field and took a shot from the top of the box that beat the keeper to give the Railsplitters a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.
It looked as though the scoring had ended for the game until the Railsplitters were awarded a penalty kick in the 78th minute. Lincoln Memorial’s Jennah Kilroy beat Webster to score the final goal of the game giving them the 4-0 final.
Webster spent all but 2:21 seconds in net for the Tornados. Jordan Box (Hoover, Ala.) relieved Webster when she came off towards the end of the first half.
Brevard looks to get their first conference win on Tuesday when they host the Pioneers of Tusculum. Kick-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Brevard College Soccer Field.
