Morrison's 14 kills not enough as Brevard falls to Queens, 3-0October 6, 2010
Schoonover adds a match-high 24 digs in loss to Royals
Charlotte, N.C. - Ashley Morrison led all players with 14 kills and Rebecca Schoonover added 24 digs, but the Tornados fell in non-conference action on Wednesday evening to Queens University of Charlotte, 25-21, 25-19, 25-13.
The Tornados (2-13) were led by Morrison as the junior middle hitter converted 34.4 percent of her attacks from the field on the afternoon. Morrison also led the Tornados with two blocks in the match. Kortney Conner added eight kills and Jamie Atkinson placed in six kills and a block for the Tornados on the evening.
Defensively, Brevard was led by Schoonover’s 24 digs, while Bethany Stevenson added nine digs and 25 set assists.
Alexa Sparell led the Royals (12-6) on the evening with 11 kills in the match as Queens hit 29.6 percent from the field. Keri Kemp added six kills, while Avery Moore set up the Royals attack with 21 set assists. Moore added 11 digs and Brittney Barren led the Royals with a team-high 12 digs in the match, while Anna Gibbs led the Queens front line with four total blocks.
The Tornados open up the second half of their South Atlantic Conference schedule on Friday, October 8th, as Brevard makes the trip to Greeneville, Tenn. to take on Tusculum College. First serve between the Tornados and the Pioneers is set for 7 p.m.
