BC Cross Country runs at Furman Univ.
Greenville, S.C. - The Brevard College Cross Country Team raced at Furman University, Saturday October 9 in Greenville, S.C. The Tornados competed against runners from 12 different institutions on Saturday afternoon.
The Brevard women’s team placed 8th in the 13-team field. Angela Canale posted the best time for the Tornados in the Women’s 5000-meter run, completing the course in 19 minutes and 48 seconds, giving her a 27th place finish in the 111-woman field. The freshman averaged 6:23 per mile. Olivia Fawcett followed at 22:25 and a 69th place finish, while Ariel Muiselaar crossed the line in 23:17. Melissa Schmidt put in a time of 23:27. Grace Skiles crossed the finish line at 24:22, while Liza Fortenberry finished at 28:19. Savannah Sargent finished at 30:25. Ohio Northern’s Allison Steinbrunne won the race in 18:17. The Bulldogs of Georgia won the team competition.
The BC men placed fifth in the 11-team meet. Jordan Tager ran the fastest for Brevard in the Men’s 8,000-Meter Race. The freshman averaged 5:52 per mile on the way to a 29:08 finish to place 50th in the 112-man field. Jonathon Lavelle finished with a 29:15 and a 53rd place finish while Michael Allsopp and Erik Gibbs each ran for 29:36. Josh Mower covered the course in 30:50 and Chris Shore came in at 31:21. Christopher Shelton finished up at a 32:15 mark. Tiffen Tapia was able to cross in 32:21. Jourdane Landry finished in 35:07. Bill Matthews won the race with a 25:23 finish. Furman took the men’s team title.
The Tornados run again on October 23rd when they travel to HickoryGreenville, N.C. to race in the event hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne University.
