Tornado Tipoff scheduled for Thursday, October 28October 25, 2010
First time the Tornados basketball teams will play in front of fans in the 2010-2011 season
Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College Athletic Department is hosting "Tornado Tipoff" as the Brevard College men’s and women’s basketball teams take the court for the first time in front of the fans for a season preview on Thursday, October 28th in Boshamer Gymnasium.
The Tornado Tipoff is a great opportunity for fans of all ages to not only meet the Tornados winter sports teams, but their coaching staffs and the BC Athletic staff as well.
The two teams this year feature 21 players hailing from the state of North Carolina, including a number of local players such as Whitney Galloway (Rosman, N.C./Rosman HS) from the men’s basketball team and Asheville natives and AC Reynolds high school graduates Amber Roberts, Brianna Worley and Amanda Whitaker.
The Tipoff will start off at 6 p.m. with a ticketed, catered meal by Poppies Gourmet Market held in the auxiliary gymnasium, where Coach Michael Jones, Coach Shannon Reid and several of the Tornados student-athletes will speak about the upcoming 2010-2011 season. Tickets for the preview meal are $10 and can be purchased both ahead of the event and at the door.
After the meal, the festivities will shift over to the competition gymnasium, where the 2010-2011 Tornados women’s basketball team will take the court in a running clock scrimmage, followed by the men’s team.
In-between games, there will be several activities and giveaways going on the court, as well as chances to win prizes. Fans, students and faculty members alike will have the opportunity to participate in three-point competitions, half-court shots, free throw contests, and a planned faculty member-player contest and much more. Appearances by the Brevard College Pep Band and the BC Tornados cheerleaders will also happen at the Tipoff, so it’s an event you don’t want to miss!
