BC Tennis is back on the courts for the 2nd Mountain Invitational
Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College men’s tennis team served up the Brevard College Mountain Invitational, Second Edition, competing against teams from Tusculum College, UNC Asheville, Lee University, and Wingate University, here at the tennis courts at Brevard College. The marquee action for Friday was the doubles matchups.
In the A draw, Coach Paul Thomson sent two teams into action. Jarred Fisher and Cole Altizer defeated the team from Wingate, Jose Valarezo and Braeden Patchell in their first match, 8-5. However, they fell in the semifinal match against Lee University’s Dimitar Pamukchiyan and Juan Saa, 8-6.
On the other side of the bracket Andrew Thompson and Konstantin Savelyev faced off with another team from Lee University, Zach Smith and Michael Yokosuk. After a hard-fought match, Thompson/Savelyev fell 9-8.
In the B draw, the Tornado team of Sam Johnston and Nate Lyles received a bye in the quarterfinals. In the semis they fell to the Wingate duo Mitchell Lvovsky and Brendan Molen, 8-3.
In Singles play, in the A flight, Fisher and Thompson both received byes in the first round and advance to the quarterfinals.
In the B flight, Savelyev faced off with Tusculum College’s Kiser. Kiser advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-4, 6-2 victory. On the other side of the bracket Altizer advanced to the quarters courtesy of a first round bye.
In the C flight, Shane Apps won his match over Wingate’s Lichtenstein 6-7, 6-3, 10-5 to continue on to the quarterfinals where he will join teammate Nate Lyles who advanced courtesy of a bye.
The men’s draw continues on Saturday as the teams are back in action at 8 a.m.
