Doubles Play highlights the start of the 2nd BC Mountain InvitationalSeptember 12, 2008
Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College Tornados Women’s Tennis team took the courts against teams from UNC Asheville, Tusculum College, Wingate University, and Lee University, Friday, September 12, 2008, starting off the 2nd BC Mountain Invitational. The first rounds served up at 2:30 in the afternoon, with doubles action highlighting the afternoon.
In the Doubles A flight, Coach Paul Thomson sent out his team of Lindsay Hostetter and Kayley Duval. In the quarterfinals against Tusculum’s Pike and Sparks, Hostetter and Duval emerged victorious with an 8-4 victory. However, in their match against the duo from UNC Asheville, Bottomly and Cavanaugh, Hostetter and Duval fell, 8-3.
In the Doubles B flight, the Tornados twosome of Lindsay Shaeffer and Kim Dixon swept through the competition to reach the finals. In their first round, Shaeffer and Dixon defeated Tusculum’s Keefer and Thompson, 8-2. In the semis, they kept the ball rolling as they overwhelmed Lee’s Miller and Butler, 8-2. Shaeffer and Dixon will faceoff with UNC Asheville’s Schon and Darling on Sunday in the finals.
In singles action, Schaeffer and Hostetter both advanced to Saturday’s quarterfinals in the A draw due to byes in the first round.
In the B draw, Duval fell to Tusculum’s Thompson in the first round by a score of 7-6, 6-3. Brevard’s Jennifer Nyman advanced to the quarterfinals courtesy of a bye.
In the C draw, the Tornados Merek Slagle advanced to the quarterfinals with a bye in the first round where she will be joined by teammate Kim Dixon who advanced after defeating Tusculum’s Smith in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6.
The Women’s Tennis team is back in action Saturday morning as they continue with day two of the 2nd BC Mountain Invitational.
