Brevard sees four riders on the podium in the two day event
Clemson, N.C. - Michael Palevo, Tyler Crotts and Brandon Milet all had podium finishes and Milet won the Men’s B Criterium as the Tornados competed at Clemson University this past weekend, taking on 14 different teams and schools in the two day event.
The Tornados started off with the Team Time Trial on Saturday morning, competing in both the men’s A bracket and the men’s B bracket.
The men’s A group finished fifth overall in the event, recording a time of 20:35:90, while the men’s B group came in second overall in their heat, finishing with a time of 21:22:41 as they competed against Clemson and regional rivals Lees-McRae and Mars Hill College.
The Road Race followed the Team Time Trial and Brevard recorded their first podium finish of the event as Palevo took home fourth place in the men’s A group, finishing behind Lees-McRae’s Zachary Felpel. Corey Meyer finished in the top 10 as well, placing eighth overall in the event, while Scott Hoffner narrowly missed out, placing 11th. Marshal Hartley and Bryan Underwood also took the field, finishing in the top 20 with Hartley taking 15th overall and Underwood rounding out the group in 19th.
Crotts and Milet led the Tornados on the podium in the men’s B group, finishing third and fourth behind a pair of riders from LMC. Caleb Welborn also finished in the top 10, taking home ninth in the event. Lewis Gaffney also took on the field, finishing 12th overall to round out the group.
Saturday’s Criterium saw Hoffner lead the way in the men’s A group, taking 10th overall in the group. Underwood and Palevo also finished in the top 20, with Underwood taking 16th and Palevo 19th in the event. Meyer and Hartley rounded out the Tornados in the event in the top 30 as Meyer finished 22nd and Hartley took 29th.
Milet out-distanced the field in the men’s B bracket, defeating 20 other riders to be the medalist in the event. Welborn finished outside the top 10 in 12th, while Gaffney placed 16th. Keith Marek and Crotts rounded out the group placing 20th and 21st.
Brevard will remain in action this weekend as they travel to nearby Mars Hill, N.C. to compete in an event hosted by Mars Hill College. The Team and Individual Time Trials, as well as the Road Race will take place on Saturday, April 2nd, while the Criterium will compete on Sunday, April 3rd.
