Sheedy accepts position as Head Cycling CoachAugust 8, 2011
Former collegiate and professional cyclist and coach will assume reins of Tornados program
Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College Athletic Department and Interim Athletic Director Juan Mascaro are pleased to announce Brian Sheedy has accepted the position as the new Brevard College Cycling Head Coach.
"I am pleased to announce the hiring of Brian Sheedy as our next head cycling coach," commented Mascaro. "Coach Sheedy brings a wealth of experience having competed and coached at all levels. His success as a professional cyclist and coach will help the Tornados Cycling program remain among the best in the nation."
Sheedy has been involved in professional cycling since 1999 and collegiate cycling since 2006 and has coached over thirty individual National Champions and seven National Championship teams. He also helped promote and organize the Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships and designed and built the National Championship courses held on the Lees-McRae College campus.
"I'm so excited to be leading the Tornadoes into the future," said Sheedy. "The program has had amazing success under Thad Walker, and I'm honored for having the opportunity to continue the great tradition already established."
Sheedy served as the Cycling coach at Lees-McRae College from 2006-2009 and serves as the owner/coach of Sheedz Cycling Performance. Prior to that, he served in the capacities of Management, Director Sportif, Rider, and Captain of the Priority Health Professional Cycling Team from 2006-2007. He also founded Advantage Benefits Group Cycling in 2004, serving as the Co-Captain of the Advantage Benefits/Endeavour Pro Cycling Team in 2005.
In addition to his coaching experience, Sheedy also has experience in various volunteer and charity events, including helping raise money to buy and build bikes for needy children around Christmas, as well as visiting schools and speaking to children about the importance of bike and helmet safety.
He also has extensive fundraising experience, having helped promote, raise funds, or organize the Rockford Criterium, the Tour de Leelanau, the Lance Armstrong Foundation/5 Mile Hill Climb, Running for Muscular Distrophy, and several Cyclo-Cross races.
Sheedy currently possesses over 70 Pro/Category 1 victories covering a span of 10 years where he road for Lees-McRae College, Hampton Trails Cycling, Priority Health Professional Cycling, Advantage Benefit/Endeavour Professional Cycling, Seasilver Professional Cycling, West Virginia/GoMart Professional Cycling, Navigators Professional Cycling, the ABC Tonnisteiner Elite Belgian Cycling team and the GS Bauwkamp Cycling Elite team.
