Rasinmaki scores in his Brevard debut

Box Score

Brevard, N.C. - Tommi Rasinmaki placed in his first collegiate goal as a Brevard College Tornado in the BC season and home opener, but Erskine found net in each of the halves to leave the BC Soccer Field with the 2-1 victory.

Rasinmaki took the first shot for the Tornados (0-1) of the 2011 season in the first three minutes of the match, but the scoring in the first half belonged to Erskine (1-0), as Dylan Goodale connected at the 25:45 mark. Goodale took advantage of a deflection in the box off the cross from Luke Boyce to sneak the goal past BC goalkeeper Jack Shaw to put the score at 1-0.

The score would remain tied through the remainder of the first half, although the Flying Fleet would outshoot the Tornados 11-2 in the opening 45 minutes of play.

In the second half, Boyce added to the Flying Fleet lead, redirecting a deflection into the net at the 49:27 mark as the Tornados attempted to clear the ball from the box, putting the score at 2-0.

The Tornados responded quickly as Jami Uuttu connected on a 50-yard pass to Tommi Rasinmaki who slipped past the Erskine defense and drilled the ball into the back of the net at the 56:01 mark.

The goal gave new life to the Tornados as the physicality of the match stepped up in the second half, with a total of four players receiving yellow cards in the final 45 minutes.

Landon Reid, Fernando Estevez and Felipe Mendonca all fired shots on goal in the waning minutes of the second half for Brevard and Erskine had several scoring opportunities in the final minutes, but neither side was able to tally another on the board as Brevard fell in the second opener to the Flying Fleet.

The Tornados take to the road this weekend as they travel to Belmont, N.C. for a non-conference match against Belmont Abbey College. Kickoff between the Tornados and the Crusaders on Saturday, September 3rd, is set for 3 p.m.
