Brevard unable to connect on 18 shots in game against Rams
Brevard, N.C. - Tommi Rasinmaki attempted a team-high three shots and Landon Reid placed two on target as the Tornados outshot visiting Bluefield College on Saturday afternoon at the BC Soccer Field, but the goalkeepers reigned supreme as both Pauli Jussila and Jefferson Watson came through with shutouts as the teams tied after the second overtime period, 0-0.
The Tornados (0-3-1) held the early advantage in the contest, attempting 10 of the first 14 shots in the game, but only two were on target as neither team was able to score in the opening 45 minutes.
Watson rose to the challenge in the second half, as both teams peppered the goals with eight shots apiece, with Watson recording four saves for Bluefield, while Jussila held off a late charge by the Rams, as neither team was able to score in regulation.
In the first extra period, Bluefield got off one shot, which Jussila made a diving stop to keep the Tornados in contention, but neither team was able to record the golden goal to end the match, as Brevard and Bluefield both recorded their first tie on the season.
The Tornados return to the road next week as they begin a five game road trip, opening with a neutral site match against UNC Pembroke, which will be held in Rock Hill, S.C. on the campus of Winthrop University. Kickoff between the Tornados and Braves is set for 7 p.m.
