Mower and Hill lead Tornados to best finishes in 2011 season
Morristown, Tenn. - Panther Creek State Park will be the site of the 2011 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Cross Country Championships, and the Tornados got to preview the course as they took on the field this afternoon at the Carson-Newman Cross Country Challenge. Josh Mower and Madison Hill led the way for Brevard as both the men’s and women’s teams took fourth overall in the event.
Mower continued his strong sophomore season, crossing the line 12th overall and third among SAC runners participating in the event as he finished the 8K in 27:53.94. Teammate Jordan Tager was close behind in finishing 17th overall with a time of 28:31.91, while Erik Gibbs was in the top 30 in crossing the line 26th overall.
Chris Shore and Shane Shelton rounded out the group as they finished one behind the other in 39th and 40th place out of the 70 man field.
Hill led the Women’s side, finishing first among conference runners on the day, recording a time of 20:18.22 to finishing sixth overall in the even, while Angela Canale was also in the top 20, placing 17th overall with a time of 21:44.12.
Heidi Kaartinen and Ariel Muiselaar finished 32nd and 35th respectively, while Ashley Lowe and Grace Meaner recorded top 60 finishes in crossing the line in 53rd and 59th overall for the Tornados women’s team.
The Tornados are back on the course next weekend as they travel to Wingate, N.C. as they compete in the annual Bulldog Stampede, hosted by Wingate University, on Saturday, September 24th.
