Shaw, Tornados fall short in 3-0 defeat to Bulldogs
Brevard outshoots UNC Asheville in the first half
Asheville, N.C. - The Brevard College Men’s Soccer team outshot the UNC Asheville Bulldogs 6-4 in the first 45 minutes and Jack Shaw made three brilliant saves in the second half, but it was not enough as the Tornados fell to the Bulldogs on Monday afternoon at Greenwood Field, 3-0.
Patrick Urmson and Tommi Rasinmaki recorded the first three shots of the match for Brevard (0-6-1) in the first 20 minutes of the match, and Andre Corvello added a fourth at the 24:30 mark, but none were able to find the mark as Asheville (1-4-1) went up 1-0 at the 29:37 mark as Jake Hagedorn placed in a shot from five yards out off the assist from Rob May to give the Bulldogs the lead.
Daniel Zambrano and Felipe Mendonca both attempted to tie up the match before half, but their shots were turned away by UNCA keeper Lassi Hurskainen as the teams went into the half with the Bulldogs up 1-0.
In the second half, the Bulldogs’ intensity went up a notch as UNCA held the Tornados without a shot, while recording 14 of their own. Hagedorn again found the back of the net, breaking away from the Brevard defense and taking the feed from David Wood, before putting the ball past Shaw to advance the lead to 2-0 at the 74:51 mark.
The final goal of the match came in the closing seconds as Kenneth Lingerfelt placed a shot in off the assist from Paul Egle to put the final score at 3-0.
Brevard returns to conference play on Wednesday, September 21st as they travel to Hickory, N.C. to take on Lenoir-Rhyne University. Kickoff between the Tornados and the Bears is set for 7 p.m.
