Brevard sees four off the crossbar in 2-0 defeat to TusculumSeptember 28, 2011
Mendonca and Rasinmaki place shots on goal in loss
Greeneville, Tenn. - Felipe Mendonca and Tommi Rasinmaki fired shots on goal and Pauli Jussila made a match high five saves, but Stephen McNeill and Pontus Rosen both found the back of the net for the host Pioneers as the Tornados fell at Pioneer Field on Wednesday night, 2-0.
Rasinmaki and Mendonca both paced the Tornados (0-8-1, 0-3 SAC) offense early, recording shots on goal in the first ten minutes, but Tusculum (1-6-1, 1-0 SAC) was first on the scoreboard as McNeill intercepted the ball on a defensive turnover and beat Jussila in the one-on-one encounter, placing the ball in the back of the net at the 17:27 mark to put the Pioneers up 1-0.
Jussila was able to keep Tusculum off the board for the remainder of the half, recording three more saves as the teams went into the half with the score remaining at 1-0.
Rosen added a second score in the final half, taking the assist off the through ball from Kjetil Paulsen and eluding Jussila for the score at the 63:25 mark.
Both sides had scoring chances the rest of the game, but Tusculum’s Drayson Davenport was wide on a penalty kick and Brevard’s Adam Martin, Andre Corvello, Patrick Urmson and Daniel Zambrano all saw shots hit the crossbar as the game ended with Tusculum on top, 2-0.
The Tornados return home to Brevard, N.C. as they welcome SAC rival Mars Hill College to the BC Soccer Field on Saturday, October 1st. Kickoff between the Tornados and the Lions is set for 2 p.m.
