Brevard falls on the road in conference action
Wingate, N.C. - Garrett Stone struck first, recording his first collegiate goal, but Peron Da Silva’s second half score put the host Bulldogs ahead as Brevard fell in a rematch of the 2011 Food Lion SAC tournament quarterfinals, 2-1.
Patrick Urmson and Paulo Silva both challenged Wingate (4-7, 2-2 SAC) goalkeeper Julian Garcia early, recording shots on goal in the first six minutes of the match before Stone finally found pay dirt in the Brevard (1-10-1, 0-5 SAC) charge. Tommi Rasinmaki lifted a corner kick to Urmson who touched the ball through to Stone, who drilled the ball into the net to put the Tornados up 1-0 at the 7:35 mark.
The Bulldogs evened the score on their first shot of the contest four minutes later as Zach Muchuca placed a corner kick in the box and Felippe Imperatriz headed the pass in the goal past Pauli Jussila to even the score at the 11:53 mark.
Though both teams placed shots on goal, neither team was able to find twine as the score remained even at 1 apiece at the half.
Silva and Urmson again challenged the Wingate keeper early in the second half, but this time the Bulldogs were first on the board as Da Silva received the cross from Tom Poole in front of the goal and touched it into the net at the 57:54 mark to give the hosts the 2-1 advantage.
The Tornados continued to challenge throughout the remainder of the match, with their best scoring opportunity coming at the 82:30 mark, but Marcelo Betcer’s shot bounced off the crossbar as Brevard fell on the road to Wingate, 2-1.
Brevard returns home to the BC Soccer Field as they remain in conference play, welcoming Anderson on Wednesday, October 12th. Kickoff between the Tornados and the Trojans is set for 4 p.m.
