McMahon, Azevedo return in Tornados defeat to Anderson

Brevard falls 3-0 at home to the Trojans

Box Score

Brevard, N.C. - Bree McMahon and Chantel Azevedo both saw their first action of the season, and Azevedo and Bailey Varley each recorded shots on goal, but visiting Anderson took advantage of Brevard defensive miscues to record three goals in a span of 10 minutes as the Tornados fell on Wednesday afternoon, 3-0.

McMahon, seeing her first collegiate action in her career since suffering a devastating injury in high school in which she lost her left leg and had her right leg severely injured, was in the starting lineup for Coach Shigeyoshi Shinohara, while Azevedo saw her first action since suffering a knee injury last year during the preseason in coming in relief for the Tornados.

Anderson (7-6, 4-2 SAC) attacked first, recording two shots in the first 3:30 of the game, while the Tornados fired away with a pair in the first 10 minutes. However, neither team was able to find the back of the net until Krystal Goss intercepted a Brevard clearance attempt at the top of the box and drilled the shot into the top left corner of the net at the 23:25 mark to put the Trojans up 1-0.

Another clearance attempt on an Anderson corner kick led to the second Trojans’ goal as Allie Waters collected the pass and lofted the shot up and over the outstretched hands of BC goalkeeper Brittany Webster at the 27:47 mark to put Anderson up 2-0.

Waters collected her second goal of the game a minute and a half later as she took the pass of Goss’ free kick, drilling the ball in from 20 yards out to give the Trojans the commanding 3-0 advantage.

The Tornados had one final attempt in the second half as Azevedo launched a shot at Genevieve Hamilton at the 80:19 mark, but the Anderson goalkeeper corralled the attempt to preserve the shutout.

Brevard remains at home as they step out of conference play on Wednesday, October 19th as they welcome Young Harris College to the BC Soccer Field. Kickoff between the Tornados and the Mountain Lions is set for 4 p.m.
