Tornados fall in conference action to the Trojans, 2-0
Brevard, N.C. - Tommi Rasinmaki and Landon Reid each recorded shots on goal for Brevard, but neither was able to find the target as the Tornados fell on Wednesday afternoon to visiting Anderson University, 2-0.
The Tornados (1-11-1, 0-6 SAC) and Trojans (10-2, 5-0 SAC) combined for eight shots in a hard-fought opening 45 minutes as both teams went into the halftime break in a scoreless tie.
Rasinmaki nearly put the Tornados on top less than a minute into the second half, weaving his way through the Trojans defense, but his shot on goal from less than 15 yards out was intercepted by Lukas Hesse as the game remained scoreless. Lasse Sohrweide challenged BC goalkeeper Pauli Jussila at the 51:24 mark, but Jussila continued to keep pace with the save.
The Trojans broke the scoreless tie at the 57:27 mark, taking advantage of a Brevard foul inside the goal box, and Sohrweide converted on the ensuing penalty kick to put Anderson up 1-0.
Reid came back for the Tornados, firing at point blank range at the 63:55 mark, but again Hesse swallowed up the shot attempt to keep the shutout alive.
Clement Samson added a late insurance goal at the 82:49 mark as he gathered the pass from Zak Moss left of the goal box and fired a shot into the upper right corner of the net to give the Trojans the 2-0 advantage.
The Tornados pressed the attack in the waning minutes of the half, but were unable to cut into the lead in falling at home, 2-0.
Brevard remains at home as they take on St. Andrews College on Saturday, October 15th. Kickoff between the Tornados and the Knights on the BC Soccer Field is scheduled for 4 p.m.
