Tornado cross country runs in Greensboro Invitational
Andrade finishes highest among Division II women
Greensboro, N.C. - The Brevard College cross country teams competed Saturday in the Greensboro Invitational. The women's team placed 7th out of 12 Division II schools, and the men finished 8th out of the 11 DII schools.
The Division II winner in the women's division was Concord University. Fellow South Atlantic Conference school Wingate University captured the DII men's title.
On the men's side, Brevard was led by Jon Lavelle, whose 8K time of 30:57 was good for 55th place, 4:27 behind Wingate's Jayce Watson, the meet's top second-division runner. Damon Martin placed 58th with a time of 31:14, while Zach Hazen's time of 33:10 was good for 94th place. Tiffen Tapia finished in 96th with a time of 33:19, and Ryan Forsyth rounded out the BC line-up with a 130th place time of 36:57.
On the women's side of things, Alycia Andrade finished second overall and first among Division II runners with a time of 19:29. Winston-Salem State's Irene Jeptolo was the only runner to finish ahead of Andrade in the 5K run.
Brevard's Brittany Radenbaugh finished a strong 45th with a time of 22:32, while Meghan Grimes followed with a 109th-best 25:42. Hannah Beck finished 116th, with a time of 25:57, and Chyna Shipp placed 136th with a time of 27:27. Kristen Zerressen rounded out the Tornado runners with a time of 29:43, good for a 153rd place run.
The Tornados hit the track next on Friday at the Lenoir-Rhyne meet.
