Three selected to All-American Bowl
Game will be played on Dec. 17 at Mall of America Field
Brevard, N.C. - Three Brevard College Football players were selected to the All-American Bowl to be held on December 17, 2011 at Mall of America Field at the Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn.
Prince Simunyu, Michael Gist and Christian Lumbu have all been selected to represent the Tornados in postseason action in a game which will showcase some of the nation’s top Division II and Division III college seniors, as well as free agent football players.
Simunyu led the South Atlantic Conference in tackles on the season with 111 stops in his senior year, finishing up his career earning All-Conference honors three times and was a First Team All-SAC linebacker in each of the last two seasons. Simunyu also finished his career as Brevard’s all-time leading tackler behind the line of scrimmage and finished second in program history in stops behind Stanley Jones.
Gist is a two-time recipient of First Team All-SAC honors at safety and tied for third on the team with 78 tackles, while recording two interceptions on the year. For his career, Gist became the program’s all-time leading interception leader, leading the team in picks in three of his four years with the Tornados, finishing with 11 overall, and also is the third-leading tackler in program history.
Lumbu battled through an injury-plagued senior season to finish second in the conference with eight sacks and was fourth in the SAC with 11.5 tackles for loss from the defensive end position. During his time with the Tornados, Lumbu became Brevard’s all-time leader in sacks for a career and was among the career leaders in tackles behind the line of scrimmage.
The All American Bowl began in 1996 in Minnesota. It is designed to bring together the country’s top Division II and III college seniors and free agents to compete in an All-Star bowl setting. The All American Bowl has been held annually at Mall of America Field at the HHH Metrodome, as well as several other great locations across the country like, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Dayton Beach and Miami, Florida and now Charleston, WV.
