Tornados host 28 games in Gil Coan Field in 2012
Brevard, N.C. - Coach Matt McCay and the Brevard College baseball have released the 2012 Tornados baseball schedule this afternoon, in conjunction with the Brevard College Athletic Department.
The Tornados went 14-28 in the 2011 season, 9-13 in the friendly confines of Gil Coan Field, and defeated five different South Atlantic Conference opponents in their third season as members of the NCAA Division II and the SAC.
This season, the Tornados will host 28 games at Gil Coan Field on the campus of Brevard College, including an eight game home stand over the final two weeks of the season as they look to continue to build on their success under Coach McCay. Brevard will also take to the road 22 times during the season, with a seven game road trip scheduled during Spring Break.
The Tornados open the season on the road against Conference Carolinas opponents Erskine and Pfeiffer on February 7th and 8th, before welcoming Alderson-Broaddus for a three-game weekend series in Brevard, N.C. on February 11th and 12th.
A road game against Winston-Salem State opens a six game road trip including a conference weekend series against Newberry and games against Lander and Limestone. February 24th marks the first home conference weekend for the Tornados as Lenoir-Rhyne comes to visit and home games against Winston-Salem State and Limestone end the month.
The beginning of March opens up the longest road trip for the Tornados on the season as they travel for conference weekends against Carson-Newman and Mars Hill, with a single game against Montreat sandwiched between the two SAC opponents. Brevard follows with a seven game home stand against Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Pfeiffer, Catawba (SAC weekend) and Erskine, before taking to the road for games against Benedict and King.
A home weekend against Tusculum is followed by rematches against both Benedict and King, while a SAC road weekend against Lincoln Memorial brings the month of March to a close.
Brevard takes on NCAA Division I opponent Gardner-Webb on April 4th on the road against the Runnin’ Bulldogs, before beginning their longest home stand of the season. The Tornados next eight games are in Gil Coan Field with SAC weekends against Wingate and Anderson, with single games against North Greenville and Montreat.
Brevard closes out the 2012 season on the road in Tigerville, S.C. in rematch against North Greenville on April 17th.
The first round 2012 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference tournament begins on April 18th at McNair Field in Forest City, N.C.
