Junior linebacker tallied school-record 21 tackles against Lenoir-Rhyne

Jones wins the award by the slimmest margin of the year. Soccer midfielder Tim Blevins, who scored the game-winning goal in Saturday's 4-3 win against Toccoa Falls, received 22 votes.
Jones, a junior from Spartanburg, S.C., recorded a school-record 21 tackles in Saturday's 40-14 loss to Lenoir-Rhyne. Included in those 21 stops were seven solo tackles and one tackle for loss.
Following his monster performance, Jones leads all South Atlantic Conference players with 10.75 tackles per game. Jones previously totaled nine tackled against UNC Pembroke, six against Pikeville, and seven against Chowan.
Jones is also now in the top-15 nationally in tackles per game, placing 13th among Division II defensive players. Saginaw Valley State's John Jacobs leads the country with 14.5 tackles per game.
The Sparkle City native is the first football player and first male athlete to earn TAW honors. The previous four polls have been split by volleyball and women's soccer players.
