Box Score

Anderson, S.C. - Katelynne Poole hit five three-pointers in scoring a career high 17 points on Saturday afternoon at the Abney Athletic Center, but a 20-6 run at the end of the first half capped by a Breonda Shannon turnaround jumper in the paint led the host Trojans to the 73-64 South Atlantic Conference victory.

A steal and layup by Anna Schlobohm put Brevard (5-13, 0-10 SAC) within one point with 8:09 to play, but Alissa Diaz and Shannon sparked the Anderson (7-11, 4-6 SAC) surge that built a double-digit cushion the Tornados were unable to overcome.

Poole broke a previous career high of six points early in the first half on her way to a 17 point performance. The redshirt sophomore was 5-for-9 from behind the arc to lead the Tornados as Brevard shot 40.0 percent (24-60) from the floor in the contest. Lindsay Brendle added 14 points, going 6-for-6 from the free throw line, while Schlobohm contributed 13 points and three steals from the bench.

Diaz led five Trojans in double-digits with 13 points as Anderson shot 58.0 percent (29-50) as a team from the floor. Emily Willoughby added 11 points off the bench, while Amanda Parris, Sierra Simpson and Shannon contributed 10 points apiece as the Trojans recorded the season sweep over the Tornados.

Simpson opened up the game with a layup as the Trojans used full-court pressure defense to score the first eight points of the half, before Candice Fritz broke the seal on the basket with a layup for the Tornados at the 18:04 mark. The Trojans went up by 10 at 14-4 on a Lauren Woods jumper in the paint at the 14:48 mark.

Schlobohm answered with a jumper and Poole hit a pair of three-pointers for the Tornados as Brevard battled back into the game. Brevard cut the lead to three points on Taylor Hiatt’s trey before a Schlobohm steal and layup put the score at 20-19 with 8:09 left in the first half.

Diaz and Shannon ended the Brevard run with back-to-back jumpers as the Trojans went on a 20-6 run spanning the next seven minutes with Shannon capping off the run with a turnaround jumper at the 1:20 mark as Anderson built a 40-25 lead. Poole and Holli Flippo connected on layups for the Tornados in their final two possessions of the half as the teams headed into the break with Anderson holding the 40-29 advantage.

Watkins opened up the final 20 minutes with a steal and hit a streaking Brendle for the layup as the Tornados scored the first seven points of the second half in bringing the game back to 40-36 on a pair of Brendle free throws. Simpson put the Trojans on the board with a pair from the charity stripe and Willoughby hit a three-pointer to extend the Anderson lead back to double-digits at the 14:47 mark as Anderson extended the lead to 47-37.

Poole continued to have the hot hand from behind the arc in the second half, connecting on a trio of three-pointers in the second half and Schlobohm connected on a trey at the 3:14 mark in the Tornados final comeback attempt as Brevard cut the lead to 65-58. However, Ahlin hit a three-pointer on the next Anderson possession to put the Trojans back up 10 as Anderson held on to record the 73-64 victory.

Brevard returns home to Brevard, N.C. on Wednesday, February 1st as they welcome Carson-Newman College for a South Atlantic Conference game. Tipoff between the Tornados and the Eagles in Boshamer Gymnasium is set for 6 p.m.
