Three top-five finishes highlight Brevard efforts at Wofford
Spartanburg, S.C. - The Brevard College Track and Field team competed as this weekend’s Terrier Relays, held by Wofford College. Taryn Gmitroski became the first BC individual to win an individual event, topping the field in the Women’s Javelin Throw for the Tornados on the weekend.
Gmitroski’s throw traveled 36.61 meters, outdistancing second place by two and a half meters and the remainder of the field by at least seven meters in taking top honors among all throwers in the event.
Heidi Kaartinen continued her strong run during the spring as well in the Women’s 1,500 meter event, finishing fifth among all runners with a time of 5:10.70 to earn a podium finish among the 24 woman field.
Jordan Tager also recorded a top five finish, placing fourth overall among the 16 runners in the Men’s 1,500 meter race, finishing with a time of 4:17.37.
Erik Gibbs took on the deep Men’s 5,000 meter event, crossing the finish line with a time of 18:17.37, to take 18th overall in the race among the 23-man field.
Kayce Martin added an eighth-place result in the Men’s 400 meter hurdles, crossing the line with a time of 1:00.50.
Willie Jones rounded out the group placed in the field by Coach Jack Daniels, finishing 13th out of the 26-man field, with a final group of 36.49 meters.
Brevard returns to the track on Saturday, April 14th, as the Tornados travel to Greenville, S.C. to take part of the Furman Invitational.
