Tornados tied for third after Aramark Collegiate Invitational first day

Koivu and Stamper tied for sixth overall in the individual rankings

Etowah, N.C. - Kim Koivu and Michael Stamper recorded matching 75s to lead Brevard after the first round of the Aramark Collegiate Invitational at the Etowah Valley Country Club, while the Tornados sit tied for third overall in the tournament after day one.

The Tornados are tied with SAC rival Lenoir-Rhyne University after the first day after finishing the round with a 308, as the two teams sit 10 strokes behind tournament leader Walters State Community College.

Koivu shot 36-39 in the first round to sit in a tie for sixth overall, while Stamper finished with a 38-37 to keep the Tornados in contention among the seven team tournament field.

Thomas Rennie finished the first day just outside the top 10, tying for 11th overall after a first round 77, finishing with a 36-41 in his final regular season event as a Tornado.

Diego Ortiz finished the round with an 81 to sit tied for 28th overall after the first day, while T.J. Hoard rounded out the group with a round of 40-44 to sit 33rd for the Tornados.

Xiaoran Li competed in the tournament as an individual, sitting 39th overall among all competitors with a first round 96.

Brevard and the remainder of the field close out the Aramark Collegiate Invitational tomorrow morning at the Etowah Valley Country Club, with final round action beginning at 9 a.m.
