Tornados represent well at 2012 Southeast Regional Championship
Gmitroski places third overall in javelin at Irwin Belk Track
Hickory, N.C. - The Brevard College Track and Field team took part in the 2012 Southeast Regional Championship at the Irwin Belk Track and Moretz Sports – Athletic Complex hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne University last weekend.
Taryn Gmitroski finished third overall in the women’s javelin throw event, recording her best throw in her first attempt at 34.53 meters. She followed with throws of 34.19m, 28.55m, 32.61m, 32.86m and 32.88m to finish with a distance of 113-03.
Heidi Kaartinen ran in the women’s 1500 meter event, crossing the finish line with a time of 5:12.81, placing 13th overall in the 25 woman field.
Kayce Martin added a 16th place finish for the Tornados in the men’s 400 meter race. The sophomore crossed the line in 53.67 seconds for Coach Jack Daniels.
Kaartinen also took part in the women’s 800 meter run, placing 16th overall with a time of 2:36.01.
Erik Gibbs made his way through the field at the men’s 800 meter event, finishing among the leaders. Gibbs crossed the line in 1:59.40 finishing seventh overall among the 28 man field.
Jordan Tager took part in the 5000 meter distance event against the 32 man field, finishing seventh overall after crossing the line in a time of 16:21.77.
