Tornados Sweep Field, Win NGU Invitational Tournament

Tigerville, S.C.- The Brevard College volleyball team won the North Greenville Invitational Tournament, sweeping four games at Hayes Gymnasium on Friday and Saturday establishing their season record at a perfect 4-0.

The Tornados defeated Vorhees College in their first match on Friday afternoon in straight sets, 25-8, 25-8, 25-10. Juniors Kortney Conner and Erin Rollins each had six kills with the help of Kayla Hanus, who recorded 23 assists.

On Friday evening, they took down Shaw University in straight sets, 25-16, 25-10, 25-18. Conner and Rollins led the Tornados again, recording six and five kills, respectively. Hanus had another solid performance, finishing the evening with 21 assists.

In their first match on Saturday, the Tornados tackled tournament host North Greenville University in four sets, 25-17, 25-19, 19-25, 25-19. Freshman Fatima Gharachorloo had a stellar performance against the Crusaders, recording a game-high 13 kills, followed closely by 12 kills from Conner. Senior Sydney Yeomans contributed a game-high 18 digs.  

In their final match on Saturday afternoon to complete the sweep of the field, BC downed Benedict College in straight sets, 25-15, 25-17, 26-24.  Experience again benefited the Tornados, as Rollins and junior Megan Clark combined for 15 kills.

The volleyball team returns to action on Wednesday in Due West, South Carolina against the Erskine College Flying Fleet at 7 p.m.
