Webster Sets New BC Saves MarkSeptember 11, 2012
Young Harris, Ga. –
Goalkeeper Brittany Webster recorded a Brevard College record 19 saves in Tuesday’s
2-0 loss at Young Harris.
"Brittany was absolutely fantastic tonight," head coach Shigeyoshi Shinohara said. "She has become the premier goalkeeper in the program's history, and one of the best in the South Atlantic Conference."
Webster’s 19 saves surpass Sydney Douglas, whose 17 saves against Montavello University on September 6, 2009 was the standing record for saves in a single game.
The Tornados had a chance to break the scoreless tie late in the game, but Megan Jenkins shot on goal at 78:04 was corralled by Young Harris keeper Taylor Erickson.
Webster was able to keep the Mountain Lions off the scoreboard until the 80:17 mark when Elana Newman punched in a Devin Waldron corner kick. Mika Lopes made it a 2-0 lead for Young Harris on a penalty kick at 82:08.
The Mountain Lions offensive attack was unrelenting, landing 22 of their 29 shots on goal in the contest. In addition to Webster’s spectacular performance, the BC defense also accounted for a team save.
The BC women are on the road on Saturday, September 15th against the Bluefield College Rams at 7 p.m.
