Brevard Edged by Mars Hill

Brevard, N.C.- The Tornados lost a hard-fought 1-0 match to the Lions of Mars Hill in their South Atlantic Conference home opener on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Alex Mullen scored the game-winning goal at 69:10 on an assist from Steven Bivens. The goal represented the only blemish on an otherwise stellar defensive effort by the Tornados. Jack Shaw played the entire game in goal for the Tornados, recording two saves.

Landon Reid put a shot on goal to tie the game at 84:55 to add excitement to the game's final minutes, but Mars Hill keeper Zach Scott preserved the shutout.

The two teams went into the half with the game scoreless, with Brevard outshooting Mars Hill 6-5 in the first half.

Brevard landed four of their 10 shots on goal in the game, but Scott was perfect in recording his third save of the season. Scott recorded three of his saves in the first half.

The Tornados are back in action at home on Wednesday, September 22nd against the Pfeiffer Falcons at  4 p.m.
