Tornados Tie PfeifferSeptember 26, 2012
Brevard, N.C. - Efren D. Escobar scored on a header at 88:30 to tie the game at 1-1, lifting the Tornados to a tie against the Pfeiffer Falcons after both overtime periods went scoreless on Wednesday afternoon.
Falcons keeper Zach Liles deflected a Junior Montano free kick at 88:25, which Ryan Guill corralled and served to Escobar in the box for the game-tying header.
The two teams then played two scoreless ten-minute overtime periods to result in the tie, but not before Brevard made a serious push for the win. The Tornados put three shots on goal in the second overtime period.
Montano came close to clinching the win when his shot nicked the crossbar just over a minute into the second overtime. Marcelo Betcer chipped a shot on goal that was kicked away by a Pfeiffer defender at 102:34 before Liles came up with an acrobatic save on an Escobar shot at 105:48.
The game was scoreless until 73:08 when Niko Andrade gave the Falcons a 1-0 advantage on a penalty kick to the corner of the net. Jack Shaw made the start in goal as a part of the Tornados stingy defense, recordeding six saves .
Brevard outshot Pfeiffer 21-to-16, and put a total of seven shots on goal in the match.
The BC men return to South Atlantic Conference play as they host the Wingate Bulldogs on Saturday, September 29th at 4:30 p.m.
