Indians Too Much For BC
Brevard, N.C.- The Brevard College volleyball team dropped their match in straight sets to the Catawba College Indians on Friday night in Boshamer Gymnasium, 25-22, 25-22, 25-20.
Catawba’s Rachel Gallup delivered a game-high 17 kills at a .483 hitting percentage to pace Catawba. The Indians hit .311 as a team as they improved to 9-11 (6-6 SAC).
Brevard battled the Indians for the entirety of the opening set, working a 19-19 tie late in the set. The Indians responded by taking the next three points to open a 22-19 lead. Megan Clark then delivered a kill to bring the Tornados within two points, but that was as close as BC would get.
The Tornados went down early in the second set, but fought back to take a lead at 21-19 before Catawba was forced to use a timeout. The Indians won five of the next six points out of the break to take a 2-0 lead in the game.
BC started out hot early in the third set by jumping out to a 13-7 lead and forcing the Indians to call an early timeout. Brevard took the first point out of the timeout before the Indians grabbed the reins, closing out the set on an 18-6 run.
Freshman Fatima Gharachorloo and junior Kortney Conner led the BC attack, contributing 30 kills as a pair. The Tornados hit only .108 as a unit, and the loss brings BC down to 9-13 (1-11 SAC) this season.
Brevard will attempt to turn their luck around as they host the University of Virginia’s College at Wise on Saturday afternoon at 12 p.m. The Indians are off until Tuesday, October 30th when they visit the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears at 7 p.m.
