BC Falls Short on Senior DayNovember 3, 2012
Brevard, N.C.- The Brevard College Tornados volleyball team (9-17, 1-14 SAC) fell to the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters (19-10, 11-4 SAC) in straight sets in Boshamer Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon, 25-8, 25-23, 25-17.
Blaire Fowler tallied her seventh straight match with double-figure kills, pacing Lincoln Memorial with a game-high 14 kills. Jazzy Oates and Allison Beavers were not far behind with ten kills each in leading the Railsplitters to their third straight win.
The Tornados came out a little sluggish in the first set, allowing Lincoln Memorial to start the set on a 12-2 run. BC took three of the next five points to make it 14-5, but the Railsplitters responded by taking the next eight points to put the set out of reach.
BC took the first point of the second set and stayed within striking distance for the entire set. The Tornados used a 5-0 run to pull within a point of LMU at 24-23. Fowler, however, delivered a set-winning kill to lift the Railsplitters.
Brevard had an early 6-5 lead in the third set before LMU went on a 5-0 run to shift the momentum in their favor. The Tornados couldn’t recover, and a BC service error sealed the win for Lincoln Memorial.
Joy Oswalt and Camille Cameron each had eight kills to head the Tornados attack.
Following the game, BC seniors Jamie Atkinson, Ashley Wilson, and Sydney Yeomans were honored in a postgame ceremony as part of Senior Day.
The Tornados will take the court for their final home match of the season on Tuesday night as they host the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne at 7 p.m. Lincoln Memorial, meanwhile, will visit the Carson-Newman Eagles on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
