Americus, Ga.- The Tornadoes fell short 84-49 to the Columbus State Cougars in the first game of the Georgia Southwester Tip-off Classic on Friday night.
BJ Battle turned in a game-high 18 points to lead an offensive attack for the Cougars that saw five players score in double figures. Battle also chipped in seven rebounds and three steals.
Early turnovers put Brevard down by as many as 17 points before a rally late in the first half brought the Tornados within eight points at the break.
A Winford Ivey three-pointer put Columbus State up 36-17 with 4:02 left in the opening half before Brevard closed the half on a 9-0 run to make it 26-28 going into the break.
The Cougars, shot 56.3% from the field after the half took control of the game, including 7-of-13 from three-point range.
Junior Guard Dominique Pickett scored in double figures to lead BC with 12 points. Pickett also grabbed five rebounds while going 8-for-11 from the charity stripe.
