BC Women's Golf Wraps Up Fall Season at Aramark Collegiate Invitational

Etowah, N.C. – The Brevard College women’s golf team wrapped up their inaugural 2008 fall season on Tuesday afternoon, as the Tornados hosted seven other schools in the Aramark Collegiate Invitational tournament at the Etowah Valley Country Club in Etowah, N.C.

The Tornados finished eighth-place for the event, shooting a combined two-round team score of 800, turning in rounds of 409 and 391.

Leading the Tornados was freshman Alisiya Klochkova shooting rounds of 89 and 96 to finish the two-round event with a score of 185, good enough to place her in 26th-place. 

Junior Erin Craig carded a 196, placing her in a tie for 29th-place overall.  Fellow juniors Jennifer Brown and Katie Brown each improved on day two, as Jennifer shot a 95, to finish with a 206, while Katie turned in 104 to card a combined two-day score of 213. 

Freshman Erika Kellems rounded out the scoring for the Tornados, as she turned in a 249 for the tournament.

Lenoir-Rhyne University won the event, shooting a combined team score of 666, +90 for the event edging out Carson-Newman College by one stroke, as the Lady Eagles carded a two-day combined team score of 667, +91. 

Rounding out the top-five was Tusculum College (685, +109), Lincoln Memorial University (714, +138) and Mars Hill College (721, +145).

The medalist was Sara Jane Sinard from Carson-Newman, as she carded the two low rounds of the tournament with scores of 76 and 77 to finish the event with a first-place score of  153, +9. 

Lenoir-Rhyne’s Megan Ulep and Brenna Martens took second and third-place, respectively, as Ulep carded a two-round combined score of 158, +14, finishing four strokes ahead of Martens who turned in a 162, +18.

Carson-Newman’s Jennifer Oliver was fourth-place overall with her score of 163, +19, while Lenoir-Rhyne’s Katie Thackerson took fifth-place with a two-round score of 165, +21.

The Aramark Collegiate Invitational tournament was the last fall tournament for the Brevard College women’s golf team, as the Tornados will take the winter off and hit the links again in 2009.  The Tornados will open up their 2009 spring season on March 16-17, when they will compete in the Montreat College Invitational in Hendersonville, N.C.
