Hanus Sets Assist Record in Loss to Mars HillNovember 10, 2012
Mars Hill, N.C.- The Brevard College volleyball team fell in four sets to the Mars Hill College Lions in the season finale Saturday afternoon at in Stanford Arena, 25-18, 24-26, 25-22 and 25-22. Kayla Hanus had 56 set assists on the afternoon, setting a new Brevard College volleyball record.
Hanus’ 56 set assists in a four-set match surpasses Jami Perry’s mark of 54 from October 26, 2007 against Mars Hill. Hanus added 13 digs to earn a double-double.
Regan Macomson's led the Lions attack with 17 kills, while Hillary Gambrell's pitched in a double-double with 16 kills and 22 digs.
Freshman Fatima Gharachorloo led the Tornados with 20 kills at a .280 hitting percentage. Three other Tornados contributed double-figure kills in the match. Erin Rollins and Kortney Conner each had 12 kills, while Megan Clark had 11.
Sydney Yeomans had a match-high 25 digs to finish with 470 digs on the season. The senior finished her career with 781 digs, which is 6th All-Time in BC volleyball history.
The Tornados finish their season 10-19 overall and 1-17 in South Atlantic Conference play. Mars Hill finishes the regular season 14-14 overall and 7-11 in SAC matches to qualify for a spot in the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference volleyball tournament from November 16-18.
Brevard College’s Boshamer Gymnasium will play host to the tournament, with the first game set to start at 12 p.m. on Friday. Four games will take place in total on Friday, with the winners advancing to Saturday’s two matches. The championship game is set for Sunday at 2 p.m.
