Tornados Fall on the Road at Clayton State, 2-1October 21, 2008
Morrow, GA – The Brevard College men’s soccer team was in action on Tuesday night, as the Tornados fell on the road at Clayton State University 2-1 in Morrow, Georgia. The 2-1 loss is the third straight game in which the Tornados have lost by one goal.
With the loss the Tornados fall to 3-13-1 on the season, while Clayton State improved to 8-4-3 on the year.
BC got on the board first, when senior Kyle Hamilton scored the first goal of the game in the sixth minute of play. Hamilton scored on a shot from the top of the box about 40 yards out to put BC up early 1-0. Junior Chris Maness and freshman Ryan Ayers assisted Hamilton on his fourth goal of the season.
However, that the early goal was the only one the Tornados would score on the night, as the Clayton State defense tightened up and allowed BC to get off only three more shots for the remainder of the game.
In the 14th minute of the first half, Clayton State’s Ryan Pugh scored to knot the score up at 1-1. Pugh went down the middle of the field off an incoming pass from teammate Kyle Timm to put Clayton State on the board.
The game winning goal would not come until the second half of play, as Clayton State’s Jonathan McKeever scored on a header in front of the net off a cross from the right side of the field from teammate Stephen Behan in the 52nd minute of play to go ahead 2-1.
That is where the score would remain until the final horn sounded as neither team could push across a score in the final 38 minutes of play.
BC goalkeeper Jerry Hatsady had four saves on the night, three of which came in the second half, as Clayton State out shot the Tornados 14-4 for the 90 minute match.
Clayton State keeper David Cristofoli picked up the win as he had only one save on the night.
The Tornados will next be in action on Friday, October 24, as Coach Mascaro’s team along with the women’s soccer team will help kick-off the Brevard College Homecoming Weekend. The Tornados are schedule to play at 4 p.m. against the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters. Clayton State will next be in action on Saturday night, when they will play host to Lander University at 7:30 p.m.
