Simmons leads BC with 31 points
Banner Elk, N.C- Five Tornados scored in double figures to give Brevard College a 109-100 victory over the Lees-McRae Bobcats in Williams Gymnasium on Saturday evening.
The Tornados trailed by as many as 10 points in the first half before using a 14-2 run to take a 27-25 lead at the 8:01 mark in the opening half.
The Bobcats went up 28-27 after a free throw from Daniel Sepokas and a jumper from Jeremiah Henry, but a Gerel Simmons three-pointer gave BC a lead they didn’t relinquish.
Simmons finished with a career-high 31 points, highlighted by a 13-for-14 performance from the foul line. The Tornados hit a season-high 29 free throws at an 80.6 percentage (29-36).
Brevard shot the basketball with astonishing efficiency throughout the entire game, connecting on 34-of 56 (60.7%) shots from the floor and 12-of-18 (66.7%) from beyond the arc.
Alex Moe also achieved a career-high in points scored, dropping 23 points to go with six boards. The freshman was 8-for-9 from the field and a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range.
Dominique Pickett finished with 22 points, while Manzey Miller had 16 and Miles Leathers chipped in 15 to round out the Tornados double-digit scorers.
Brevard took a 53-45 lead into the break, and opened the second half on a 8-2 run.
Sepokas finished as Lees-McRae’s leading scorer with 31 points while dishing out nine assists and grabbing six boards for the Bobcats.
The Tornados are out of action until they host Fayetteville State in Boshamer Gymnasium on December 30th at 4 p.m.
