Newberry Takes Shootout in BoshamerJanuary 23, 2013
Brevard, N.C.- The Brevard College men's basketball team lost a high-scoring affair 106-88 to the Newberry College Wolves in Boshamer Gymnasium on Wednesday night.
The Tornados jumped out a big lead early thanks to some hot shooting from beyond the arc, finding themselves up 15 points just over seven minutes into the action. BC hit 10 of their first 12 shots from three-point range.
The Wolves turned their 15-point disadvantage into a six-point lead after a 26-5 run that spanned only 5:18 in the opening half. Newberry kept the Tornados at bay for the remaining minutes of the first half and took a 52-48 lead into the break.
Dominique Pickett was the biggest reason the Tornados were within striking distance at the half as the redshirt junior dropped 25 of his 31 points in the first half. Manzey Miller had 14 of his 20 before the break as well.
As the Wolves started to take control of the game in the second half, Brevard couldn't match Newberry's depth down the stretch. The Newberry bench chipped in 49 points compared to only four points by the BC reserves.
Newberry shot 52.9 percent (36-of-68) from the field in the game, and enjoyed a 42-20 rebounding advantage.
Brevard looks to bounce back as they resume their three-game home stand with Anderson University on Saturday at 4 p.m.
