Trojans Outlast Tornados
Brevard, N.C.- The Brevard College women's basketball team came up just short in a 57-54 game against the Anderson Trojans in Boshamer Gymnasium on Saturday as a Tuccoa Brackett game tying three-pointer rimmed out at the final buzzer.
The Tornados scored five unanswered points over the final three minutes of the game to pull within three on a Micheala Watkins free throw with 46 seconds remaining in the game.
BC applied full-court pressure as the Trojans brought the ball up the floor on their ensuing posession, and the Tornados fouled Ahlin Tilde with 38 seconds remaining. Tilde missed the front end of her one and one, which was collected by Sierra Simpson of the Anderson.
BC prevented the Trojans from getting an open look for the duration of the shot clock, and a Simpson jumper to beat the shot clock missed to give BC a chance to tie the game.
The rebound was pulled down by Brevard's Micheala Watkins with eight seconds on the clock, and she tossed an outlet pass to Brackett, whose attempt to tie the game barely missed.
Brackett finished with a game-high 18 points and also grabbed four rebounds. Tempestt Mack tied her season-high of 13 points to go with a team-high of seven rebounds.
The Tornados (4-12, 2-6 SAC) played the Trojans (13-5, 7-1 SAC) tight all game, using an 8-2 run to end the first half and send the game into the break tied at 25-25.
The Trojans had four players finish in double figures, paced by 14 points from Alissa Diaz. AU's Breonda Shannon tallied a double-double, finishing with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Brevard wraps a three-game homestand on Wednesday night as they host the Eagles of Carson-Newman in Boshamer Gymnasium at 6 p.m. Anderson will travel to Lenoir-Rhne for a 6 p.m. tip.
