Carson-Newman Capitalizes on BC Miscues

Brevard, N.C.- The Carson-Newman Eagles rallied from a three-run deficit to pick up a 7-5 victory over Brevard at Gil Coan Field on Sunday afternoon, thanks in part to three Tornado errors. The Eagles took the series 2-1 after shutting out the Tornados 2-0 in game two of Saturday’s doubleheader.

The Eagles scored in four consecutive innings to overcome the Tornados strong start.

The Eagles took a 1-0 lead against BC starter Brennan Daniels in the top of the 2nd inning before Kody Spencer drove in four runs over the next two innings to put the Tornados ahead 4-1.

Spencer doubled in Aaron Goforth in the bottom of the 2nd to tie the game at 1-1, and picked up three more RBI’s with a bases-loaded double in the 3rd.

The Eagles got two runs back in the Carson-Newman 5th on two hits and a BC throwing error, and scratched another run across in the 6th on a Bo Ausmus RBI single to tie the game.

Carson-Newman capitalized on another BC fielding error to take the lead in the 7th, this time against reliever Alex Litaker (L, 0-1). The Eagles then scored a pair of insurance runs against Chad Fisher in the top of the 8th to go up 7-4.

Brevard’s Eric Renegar lifted a sacrifice fly to score Matt Proffitt in the bottom of the 8th  and make it a two-run game, but BC went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 9th.

BC returns to action midweek as they host Lander University at Gil Coan Field on Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m.
