Tornados Swept by L-R

Brevard, N.C.-The Lenoir-Rhyne Bears swept a doubleheader from the Brevard College Tornados on Saturday afternoon, rallying for a 3-1 win in the opener before taking the second game 5-1 on BC's Senior Day.

The Bears scored two runs in the top of the 7th to break a 1-1 tie and earn the win in the opener.
Lenoir-Rhyne’s Jody Mizelle lifted a two-run homer over the left field fence with one out in the top of the 7th after Brittany Coursen reached on an error.
BC senior Kayla Clemens (L, 4-12), who gave the Tornados a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st with a solo homer, threw a complete game in the circle. The righty allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out eight.
The Bears tied the game at 1-1 when L-R’s Chelsea Long delivered a sacrifice fly with one out in the top of the 3rd.
Game 2: L-R 5, Brevard 1
Lenoir-Rhyne scored three runs over the final two innings, solidifying their lead in the late innings to earn the sweep.
The Tornados got a run back in the bottom of the 6th on a Heather Morris double to right center that made it 4-1, but BC couldn’t push any more runs across against L-R starter Brandi Hole (W, 14-7).
L-R capitalized on a BC throwing error in the top of the 2nd to take a 1-0 lead, and added another run on a wild pitch in the top of the 3rd.
Alyssa Miller (L, 3-6) made the start for the Tornados, but allowed four unearned runs on four Brevard fielding errors over 5.2 innings. Clemens tossed the final 1.2 innings for BC, also allowing an unearned run on a BC error in the 7th.
The Tornados are back in action on Wednesday as they visit Winston-Salem State for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
