Women's Soccer Adds Four More to 2013 Signing Class

Brevard, N.C.- Brevard College Women’s Soccer Coach Shigeyoshi Shinohara is pleased to announce the addition of four commitments to the 2013 Brevard College Tornados women’s soccer team as Yuki Soga, Sarah Fonger, Megan Terrell and Emily Martin have committed play for the Tornados in 2013.

Soga is a midfielder out of Tokyo, Japan, who scored 10 goals and tallied 15 assists in two seasons under Takashi Sato at Kokushikan University. At KU, Soga helped her team win the Tokyo Metropolis League Division II and III Championships, in addition to the Kantou Regional League Division II title. As a high school player, Soga received All-Tokyo Metropolis League recognition.

“Yuki is one of the most technically gifted midfielder’s we’ve seen,” said Shinohara. “She’s the first Japanese player we’ve recruited at Brevard in our four-year program history, and she has a great knowledge of the game. I’m eager to see what she can do in the midfield for us.”

Fonger is a forward from Kerwood, Ontario, Canada, who played her prep soccer at Strathroy District Collegiate Institute. She led SDCI in scoring for four seasons, and captained the Saints as a junior and senior.

“Sarah has a great energy and strength on the field as an attacking player, and I’m excited to see how much she can contribute as a goal scorer,” Shinohara said. “She has experience playing at the collegiate level already, which will be a great addition to our program.”

The Tornados have also signed Megan Terrell, a defender originally from Lake Wales, Florida. A product of Brevard High School, Terrell played for the Blue Devils under Erik Wahus. On Terrell’s impact at BHS, Wahus stated, “Megan is a hard worker who really cares about the team and her teammates. She motivates others to work hard and supports the team in all aspects.”

“Megan has developed as a soccer player throughout high school thanks to her great work ethic,” Shinohara said. “She’s always very willing to learn, and contributed a lot in her high school career."

The fourth addition to the Tornados roster is Emily Martin, a goalkeeper from Dallas, North Carolina. Under Angela Datz at North Gaston HS, Martin was named Female Athlete of the Year, a four-time All-Conference selection, Team MVP, and the recipient of the Coaches Award. Martin also played volleyball for the Wildcats. Off the field, she was a member of the AB Honor Roll.

“Emily is very athletic with great potential as a goalkeeper, and her work ethic will definitely aid her development,” Shinohara said. “ She has a great attitude on and off the field, and her desire and will to be a part of the program is really evident.”
