The Tornados look for their first conference win on the year

• On Wednesday, BC sophomore Micah Bagwell netted his first collegiate goal in the 73rd minute and Ryan McPhillips scored his team-high third goal, but the Tornados dropped a 4-2 decision to Newberry. The Wolves earned its first win on the season with the victory and scored goals in the 60th and 66th minute to pull away in the second half.

• BC (2-5) has matched its win total from last season (two), but has suffered four consecutive losses.

• The Tornados have scored two goals in consecutive games for the first time since Oct. 30 and Nov. 3, 2010.

Heath Turner and McPhillips are the only Tornados to start every match this season. Paulo Silva (12) leads the team in shots and McPhillips (11) sits second on the squad. 18 different Tornados have taken a shot this year. Turner leads the South Atlantic Conference with 34 saves.

• Carson-Newman enters the match 3-2, 0-2 SAC on the year and defeated King, 3-1, on Wednesday. The Eagles are coming off of a three-match road trip and are 3-1 on the season away from home. Carson-Newman has alternated wins and losses through its first five matches.

• The Eagles offense rests on the legs of Ross Frame, who leads the team in shots (18), goals (three) and points (eight). Matheus Bachi has scored twice this season while goalkeeper Rumwald Le Guevel has amassed 31 saves and a 1.32 goals against average in 2013.

• Carson-Newman has dominated the series lately by winning the last four via shutout and the last five overall. The Eagles won a 1-0 match in 2012 and hasn’t allowed a BC goal since 2008.

• BC head coach and Athletic Director Juan Mascaro enters his seventh season at the helm for the Tornados.
